Common questions
Is Pass the License really free?
Yes. Every practice test and study page is free with no account or sign-up. The site is supported by ads.
What score do I need to pass the insurance exam?
The passing score differs by state and license, and some states report it as a scaled score instead of a percentage. Check your state's page or your exam provider's candidate handbook for the official requirement. Separately, we suggest aiming for 80 percent or better on longer practice tests. That is our own study target, not an official score, and it does not guarantee a result on the real exam.
Does the practice exam include my state's laws?
Life and Health state law questions are available for all 50 states plus DC. Property and Casualty state law questions are available for all 50 states plus DC. Pick your exam and state, and your practice exam will mix in state law questions. Mixed sets aim for about a quarter state law where the eligible questions allow.
How many questions are on the insurance license exam?
It depends on your state, the license, and the testing provider. Combined exams such as life and health or property and casualty often have 100 to 150 scored questions. Check your state's candidate handbook for the exact count and time limit.
Are these the actual exam questions?
No. These are original practice questions written to match the concepts on the exam. Real exam questions are confidential, so be wary of anyone claiming to sell them.
